Click on the link to download and view Water Quality report for February, 2010 (PDF) comprising data from 286 surface water samples collected from bayous and tributaries in Houston Extra Territorial Jurisdiction.

Elevated Escherichia coli (E. Coli) and Entetococcus levels were noted in areas thoughout the city. All water segments are designated for contact recreational use, except the Houston Ship Channel, Segment No.1005, which is designeted non-contact recreation. Segments 1006 and 1007 are not included in the contact and/or non-contact recreation classification due to local statutes that preclude recreational uses for safety reasons. All bacteriological results were compared to contact recreation standards. E. coli counts are reported for single grab samples that exceed 394 colonies per 100mL, and Entetococci are reported for tidal waters whereby a single grab sample exceeds 89 colonies per 100mL.

Other noncompliant parameters for the month of February include field pH, Dissolved Oxygen, Cl, SO4, TDS, and Temperature. (29) twenty-nine percent of all the samples taken in February were found to be noncompliant in one or more of the parameters in which they were tested.
