Buffalo Bayou

Located in the following county(ies): Harris, Fort Bend

This is the most famous of all the steams in Houston; the birthplace of Houston, thanks to the Allen brothers, and also the start of conservation efforts in the Houston area. This bayou has some of the most unexpected and beautiful scenery anywhere in Houston. Several examples of Houston's great architecture also unfold along the trips. These include beautiful homes, views of the Post Oak and Galleria areas, and views of downtown.

Where else in Houston can you canoe through natural rock rapids and by outcrops? How about floating by older tree growths? Buffalo Bayou has a longer canoeable area than any other bayou and offers more trips as well. Almost a secret to most people, Texas' largest canoe race, the Buffalo Bayou Regatta, happens here annually. From Voss to Downtown, two hundred or more boats traverse 14 ½ miles right through the city!
