The Hunting Bayou watershed is located in central Harris County within the city limits of Houston, Galena Park and Jacinto City. The bayou flows southeast from its headwaters just east of the Hardy Toll Road to its confluence with the Houston Ship Channel near the City of Galena Park. The watershed is highly urbanized, with a mixture of residential, commercial and industrial developments. The middle reach is the only area that contains open space of significant size and includes Herman Brown Park. Herman Brown Park covers a total of 717 acres, with about 375 acres in the Hunting Bayou watershed. The Park is primarily a passive use park which promotes wildlife habitat and bottomland forest preservation.
